Nymphoides indian

Nymphoides Indian or Marsh flower Indian, scientific name Nymphoides indica. Widely distributed in fresh waters of Asia in India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, southern provinces of China etc. Introduced to New Zealand and Australia, where it successfully took root. It grows in stagnant reservoirs – lakes, swamps, as well as in quiet backwaters of rivers with a slow current.

Young plants begin their growth underwater. Gradually, the petioles of the leaves lengthen, at the same time thickening, and reach the surface. Green floating round-shaped leaves up to 20 cm in diameter are spread on the water surface. There is no stem as such, the leaves grow from the base, turning into a powerful root system, securely holding the plant. In favorable conditions, white flowers with white “double” petals form above the surface.

Nymphoides indica belongs to unpretentious plants, able to adapt to a wide range of hydrochemical values and temperatures. It can be used both in large aquariums and open ponds during the warm season. Any soil except rocky.
