Nymphoides flipper

Nymphoides flipper, the name Nymphoides “Taiwan” is also used as a synonym, the scientific name is Nymphoides hydrophylla, subspecies “Taiwan”. The natural habitat extends throughout tropical Asia and partially affects the African continent. This subspecies, cultivated for aquariums, comes from the southern part of the core of Taiwan.

Unlike related species that form floating leaves, Nymphoides flipper continues to grow submerged, forming a dense bush up to 25 cm high from large light green leaves on thin petioles. However, in conditions of shallow depth, leaves floating on the surface may develop.

In favorable conditions, it grows and spreads very quickly. Young shoots appear on the lower part of the leaf blade with an already developed root system. Old and floating (if present) leaves should be cut off regularly to avoid overgrowth.

The plant needs intensive lighting. With a lack of light, Nymphoides “Taiwan” begins to strive for light, lengthening its petioles. It is also necessary to provide nutrient soil. It is advisable to use special aquarium soil. Otherwise, it is easy to maintain, perfectly adapts to a wide range of temperatures (but not lower than 15 ° C) and hydrochemical parameters.
