Echinodorus “Dancing Firefeather”, trade name for Echinodorus “Tanzende Feuerfeder”. It is a selective aquarium plant, it does not occur in nature. Bred by Tomas Kaliebe. It went on sale in 2002. Named after the eponymous dance group “Tanzende Feuerfeder”, consisting of employees of the fire department of the Barnim district in Brandenburg, Germany.

Echinodorus Dancing Fire Feather

It is able to grow both under water and in wet greenhouses, paludariums, but it still looks most impressive in aquariums. It grows up to 70 cm in height, which should definitely be considered when choosing this plant and its location. The plant has large leaves on long petioles, collected in a rosette. The elliptical leaf blade grows up to 30 cm long and about 7 wide. The color of the leaves is olive green with a pattern of irregular red spots. Apparently, the swaying of the “red” leaves in the water somehow reminded Thomas Kalieb of the flames associated with a local dance group.

Due to its size it is only suitable for large aquariums. Echinodorus ‘Dancing Firefeather’ shows its best colors in soft nutrient soil and moderate light levels. The hydrochemical composition of water does not matter. The plant adapts very well to a wide range of pH and dGH values. The main thing is that the fluctuations do not occur abruptly.
