Nymphoides aquatic
Nymphoides aquatic, scientific name Nymphoides aquatica. It grows in North America in the southern states of the USA from Florida to Texas and in the north to Delaware and Maryland, as well as in Mexico. Occurs in swamps and sections of rivers with a slow current, creeks.
Grows completely submerged in water. The leaf plate is heart-shaped with long petioles attached to a very short stem. A characteristic feature of Nymphoides aquatic are massive roots resembling a bunch of bananas. Due to this form of roots, this plant is often called “Water Banana” or “Banana Grass”. As it grows, leaves form floating on the surface of the water, and the banana-like roots die off.
Able to grow in a fairly wide temperature range from 15 to 28°C. The best conditions are achieved in soft slightly acidic water. Any soil – rocky, gravel or sandy. The roots should not be immersed in the substrate, the plant should be placed on top of the soil.
