moss rug

Moss mat, scientific name Fissidens splachnobryoides. In the wild, it grows throughout tropical Asia from India to the islands of Oceania. It occurs in humid places along the banks of rivers, lakes and other bodies of water on snags, stones, as well as within the boundaries of settlements, even on the houses of local residents and in home flower pots. Since 2006, for the first time, it began to be sold from nurseries in Singapore as an aquarium plant.

Moss consists of tiny short fragments resembling feathers – a stalk with pinnate leaves extending on the sides. Each shoot is connected to each other, forming a low dense “carpet” of a short “pile”. Because of this feature, in English-speaking countries it is called Doormat Moss, which in free translation means “Rug for wiping feet.”

Despite the fact that in nature Moss-mat grows mainly in a humid environment, it can also be completely submerged in water. It does not grow on the ground, it must be fixed on some rough surface with a fishing line or special glue for plants. The aquatic environment does not matter, the moss successfully adapts to different pH and dGH values and light levels.
