ludwigia tornado
Ludwigia tornado, scientific name Ludwigia inclinata var. Verticillata Curly. Does not occur in nature. Probably an artificially bred variety from Ludwig Kuba. First appeared in Nguyen Tien Dun Aquatic Plant Nursery in Vietnam. In Europe, it has been available for purchase since 2010.
Ludwigia tornado has unusual leaves twisted along its axis, evenly spaced on an upright tall stem, reaching up to half a meter in height. Young leaves are reddish, old ones are green. Able to grow above water. In the air, the leaves acquire the usual oval shape. If the plant is again placed under water, then they will no longer be twisted, but will become the same as those of Ludwig Kuba – long and narrow.
It is considered a demanding plant, sensitive to the mineral composition of the soil and the level of illumination. Lack of light leads to spots on the leaves, loss of color and wilting. It is recommended to use special aquarium soils, provide bright lighting and introduce carbon dioxide during the daytime.
Given the growth rate and size, it is advisable to plant closer to the back wall of the aquarium or in the middle, where there is more light. With pruning, you can form a voluminous bush. Separated fragments, when placed in the ground, give roots and become new plants.
