Types of Aquarium Plants

Lobelia minor

Lobelia cardinalis small, scientific name Lobelia cardinalis “Small Form”. It is a breeding variety of the usual Lobelia cardinal and differs from it in the shape and size of the leaves – they are rounded and noticeably smaller. First released in Southeast Asia, in Singapore.

In favorable conditions, the plant forms compact dense green bushes with numerous side shoots. If they are not cut off, they grow into a continuous “carpet”. For normal growth, a high level of illumination and additional maintenance of carbon dioxide is required. In addition, the substrate must contain sufficient minerals (NO3 10–20 mg/l, PO4 1–2 mg/l). Accordingly, in low light and poor nutrient supply, the plant tends to stunted growth and becomes more sparse, no shoots are formed.

Due to its appearance and growth characteristics (larger in width than in height), Cardinal Lobelia is perfect for the foreground and middle ground in decoration. Often used in Dutch aquariums to create diagonal raised terraces.
