Character
Kanaani is a fairly young experimental cat breed originally from Israel. She was bred in 2000 as a domestic copy of the wild steppe cat. And nine years later the breed was registered with the WCF. To get Kanaani, breeders crossed Abyssinian , Bengal , Lebanese and Oriental cats. However, the best result was the crossing of the steppe and European shorthair cats.
The name Canaani comes from the Arabic word Canaan . This was the name of the territories of the Fertile Crescent, on which Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, as well as part of the territories of other countries are currently located.
The nature of Kanaani is reminiscent of her wild roots. These cats are independent, proud and very careful with strangers. They are not one of those simple pets that try to serve a person. Kanaani knows her worth.
However, she inherited some character traits from a domestic cat. For example, pets of this breed quickly become attached to the owner and behave easily and naturally in the family circle. They are ready to spend every evening in the company of a person. True, Kanaani still do not need a host so much, like, for example, Abyssinian or sphinxes . In the absence of a person, a cat will find something to do for itself, and it will definitely not be bored.
Behaviour
Kanaani are self-sufficient, they require respect for themselves and their own space. These cats need to allocate a place in the apartment where they could spend time alone. You should not impose your company on your pet if he is reluctant to make contact. It is especially important to explain this rule to guests: Kanaani does not trust strangers.
Kanaani are excellent hunters with well-developed instincts. These are agile, fast and hardy cats, for which it is a real pleasure to hunt down and catch prey. Therefore, there can be no talk of neighborhood with rodents and birds. Kanaani is cautious with dogs, does not show excessive emotionality and for a long time may not pay attention to her neighbor at all. Much of the relationship between the canaani and the dog depends on the latter, as well as on whether the animals grew up together.
Kanaani is unlikely to tolerate childish pranks, so experts do not recommend getting a cat for families with small children. You can purchase such a pet if the children have already reached school age.
Care
Kanaani do not require careful maintenance. Short hair should occasionally be wiped with a damp hand or towel to remove loose hairs. Also, from childhood, a kitten should be taught to hygiene procedures: brushing teeth and eyes.
Conditions of detention
Kanaani needs outdoor walks, so she feels best in a country house. In a city apartment, this cat can live, but only if the owner is ready to provide her with space for games and will walk with her a couple of times a week.
