Types of Aquarium Plants

Japanese Ophiopogon

Japanese Ophiopogon, scientific name Ophiopogon japonicus, is a small herbaceous plant with narrow, long leaves growing from one center and bending outward, which looks like a miniature green fountain.

Although Ophiopogon is sold as an ornamental plant for freshwater aquariums, it can grow completely submerged in water for only a few months, and then dies. It is rarely used in ordinary aquariums, mainly in exhibition samples. It grows at a moderate rate, reaching a length of about 10 cm, does not require special conditions or top dressing. In the design, groups of these plants are placed in the foreground and middle ground, either on the sides of the tank or next to large objects (artificial ships, castles, driftwood, etc.).
