Is it possible to keep a hamster in the same cage with a guinea pig, rat, rabbit or degu

It happens that several rodents live in one house, and then the owners face the question of the admissibility of their joint maintenance. Hamster and guinea pig

Hamsters are territorial animals, most often they are kept separately even within the species, so it is not recommended to house them in a common cage with guinea pigs for the following reasons:

When living together, rodents will fight for territory. Hamster and chinchilla

First of all, chinchillas require a very large cage, which is completely unsuitable for hamsters. Aggressiveness can be shown by both species, and if the chinchilla suffers slightly, then a small rodent can be eaten by a larger animal.

The hamster diet often includes fresh pieces of vegetables and fruits, and raw food is contraindicated for chinchillas, so pets should be kept separately from each other.

Hamster and rabbit

Rabbits are social animals and are best kept in a group, however living with a hamster can hurt both. First of all, a rabbit that is large relative to its neighbor can easily crush the baby by accident.

The desire of hamsters to defend their territory results in aggressive behavior, and then the rabbit uses its powerful hind legs. One blow can be enough to kill or seriously injure a small pet.

Owners of several rodents need to remember that different species are generally not recommended to settle nearby. This is especially true of single hamsters, jealously guarding their space. Therefore, each animal should have its own dwelling, then peace and tranquility will remain in the house.
