Fruits occupy not the last place in the diet of domestic rodents. They must be present in the diet of animals daily, but not all fruits will be beneficial. Let’s see if hamsters can have a banana, and if so, in what quantities it is better to offer it to your pet.

Materials

This unusual, exotic berry (from a biological point of view, this is a berry, not a fruit) has a lot of useful properties. The fruits of perennial cane plants are rich in potassium and magnesium, which is good for the cardiovascular, urinary and nervous systems of the body. Iron, also present in large quantities, helps to increase hemoglobin. The useful qualities of the product include the fact that it is able to quickly remove the feeling of hunger, restore strength. These fruits are hypoallergenic.

These berries have no less properties that are harmful to hamsters:

  • high calorie content (dangerous for individuals prone to obesity);
  • a high percentage of glucose (for this reason, it is forbidden to give bananas to diabetic hamsters);
  • the ability to cause fermentation in the intestines (due to flatulence, the animal will experience pain and worry);
  • too soft, viscous consistency (the teeth of babies must constantly be ground down on solid food, otherwise they will grow excessively).

Those fruits that are sold in our stores have already lost most of their useful qualities due to the long process of transportation, so it is useless to feed them to pets in order to saturate their bodies with vitamins and microelements.

After consultation with a veterinarian, you can offer sweet fragrant pulp to malnourished animals that have recently overcome a serious illness for the speedy restoration of body weight.

Based on the foregoing, a hamster can be given a banana, but occasionally, as a treat.

Useful Tips

If your hamster eats a banana with pleasure, does not have breathing or intestinal difficulties, and is not obese or diabetic, you can feed him his favorite treat.

Be sure to follow only to see if he ate the offered piece to the end. A thrifty kid could set aside a small part of the sweetness “for a rainy day” in his pantry. This is fraught with the fact that the food itself, and the bedding near it, and other food will deteriorate.

Some owners noted that their pets experienced breathing problems after eating the pulp of the berry, because the pieces stuck to the larynx and made it difficult to breathe. If you give your hamster a banana and then realize he isn’t breathing normally, try feeding him something solid to “clean” the sticky flesh out of his throat. Do not offer your pet this treat again.

To make pets eat berries for the benefit of teeth, feed them banana chips. They are firm and tasty. They are part of some ready-made feed mixtures for domestic rodents.

If you have a young healthy hamster and a banana is his favorite delicacy, feed the baby with it only after he has eaten his main food (cereals, vegetables).

A hamster with a banana in its paws is a funny sight, but you should not indulge your pet with such a meal often. It is better to offer him allowed vegetables – carrots or cucumbers.
