Hygrophila large-leaved

Hygrophila multi-seeded “Broad-leaved” or Hygrophila large-leaved, scientific name Hygrophila polysperma “Big leaf”. It is a variety of Hygrophila multi-seeded. Bred in Denmark in the nursery Tropica – one of the largest suppliers of aquarium plants. Despite the fact that this variety has been supplied throughout Europe and North America for many years, in some sources it is mistakenly called Staurogyne repens, although it is a completely different plant species, although similar in appearance.

Able to grow both on land on wet substrates, and completely submerged in water. In the air, forms compact bushes. The sprouts have a strong stem and short leaf internodes. Under water, it will grow larger and resemble the “classic” Hygrophila polyspermous, with the exception of the shape of the leaves. The leaf blade is not lanceolate, but oval. Leaves may turn brown in bright light.

Growing is simple. Grows in a wide range of temperatures and values ​​of hydrochemical parameters. Not demanding on light levels. It can be found in unheated aquariums and open backyard ponds during the warm season. Reproduction is carried out similarly to other stem plants. The sprout can be divided into two parts and the separated fragment planted in the ground, it will soon give roots. In place of the cut, the remaining sprout will have new branches.
