How to wean a cat to go to the toilet in the wrong place?

This behavior may indicate gastrointestinal diseases associated with the anal gland, or, most often, diseases of the genitourinary system. Therefore, before starting to wean a cat to go to the toilet in the wrong places, it is recommended to contact a veterinary clinic and identify the cause.

Offense

One of the reasons for feline wrecking, which the owners sometimes do not immediately realize, is the desire for revenge. Cats shit on the owner’s things, thereby demonstrating their resentment. This can be caused by a lack of attention from the owner, for example, due to the fact that the owner changed his usual work schedule and began to come home late.

Cats are also able to show in this way that they are worried because of constant conflicts within the family. It is possible that everything is fine at home, but a new family member has appeared, which makes the animal jealous.

This behavior can become habitual for the cat, so do not hesitate and, in addition to visiting a doctor and protecting the cat from psychological stimuli, consider such a cause of cat rebellion as dissatisfaction with the litter box.

How can a cat not be satisfied with a tray?

There may be several reasons for this:

  1. She may not like the filler. Try to change it: there are different types of litter for the tray, and some of them will definitely suit the cat;
  2. The size and shape of the tray does not suit her (it is too small, the sides are high or low for her);
  3. The tray is not positioned correctly. The cat likes to choose its own suitable place for the toilet, and you should, if possible, adapt to it;
  4. Unpleasant smell from the tray. Cat cleanliness takes over – a cat will not go into a dirty and uncleaned tray;
  5. The owner is overly pushy. The cat is forcibly seated, explaining that she is supposed to go to the toilet here, and she does the opposite;
  6. Sometimes a cat may mistake things similar to it for a tray. For example, the rectangular shape of a flower pot can be misleading. In this case, it is better to remove the pot in a place inaccessible to the cat or secure it with stones on the ground.

If your cat is very meticulous about looking for a secluded place to use as a toilet, try buying her an unusual-looking litter box that looks like a house. Perhaps the instinct of self-preservation makes her look for a secluded place where she will feel safe.

Sometimes dislike for the tray appears after suffering diarrhea or constipation – the cat’s toilet is associated with these troubles. Then buying a new tray can help.

Weaning a cat to go to the toilet in the wrong place

In the entrance of a residential building, this problem should be dealt with by eliminating the smell. Cats are great at remembering the smell, and if one has marked the territory, then others will want to do it in the same place. There are special tools, but you can get by with what is at hand: just wipe the floor in the stairwell with a solution of vinegar, diluted in a ratio of 1 to 2.

If the bed is the scene of the crime, it is important to act immediately. A lavender-scented rinse will help – this is the most unpleasant scent for cats.

Buy lavender oil and apply ten drops to the headboard area of your bed. Don’t forget to close the bedroom doors.

It is natural for cats to bury their feces. Therefore, an attempt on a flower pot is a natural feline instinct. Mineral absorbent litter in the tray will help distract the cat from the flower pot. The pots themselves are recommended to be removed away, to places where the animal cannot reach them.

If it is not possible to remove the flowers, then it is recommended to put the peel of a lemon or orange in the pot: cats do not like the smell of citrus fruits. It will not be superfluous to protect the edges of flower pots with long branches, such a fence will prevent the cat from reaching the pot itself. You can also lay out foil, toothpicks or double-sided tape on the windowsill – your pet will definitely not like it, and he will begin to avoid this place. When the cat is out of the habit of soiling flower pots, it will be possible to free the flowers from all means of protection.
