How to treat a wound in a ferret?

Ferrets have an irrepressible thirst to explore the world around them. But travel and discovery, even within the apartment, are not only exciting, but also dangerous. Exploring hidden corners, a curious ferret can accidentally get hurt or get a combat trophy in games with a friend. And the task of the owner is to help him. How to properly treat a pet wound?

If the pet was injured badly, first of all, you need to stop the bleeding and apply a bandage. Then, take your pet to a veterinarian as soon as possible, who will treat the wound and, if necessary, stitch it. But if the wound is shallow, you yourself can help the pet. In this case, your home first aid kit must have a special tool. Contrary to stereotypes, iodine and brilliant green are not suitable for this role.

Iodine and brilliant green destroy microbes, but burn the wound surface. They can only be applied to intact areas around the wound. These remedies will prevent germs from entering the wound, but will not kill the germs that are already there. Hence, they are ineffective. With the use of brilliant green, you need to be very careful, because. it has a poisonous effect on a small animal.

For the treatment of wounds, it is necessary to use means that gently affect the wound surface. The most popular ones are hydrogen peroxide and chlorhexidine. When applied, the peroxide foams and pushes out dirt, but, unfortunately, does not disinfect.

Chlorhexidine is ideal for treating wounds. It is a powerful antiseptic that does not burn and is not addictive. Better to have it in your first aid kit!

When an animal is injured, it is already stressed, and wound care reinforces it. It is very important to act calmly and quickly and use the right means so as not to aggravate the situation. It is necessary to treat the wound until complete healing, about 3 times a day.

If the wound becomes inflamed and festering, be sure to contact your veterinarian.
