How to transfer a puppy to a ready-made diet?

When

Puppies feed on mother’s milk until they are 6-8 weeks old. But if in the first twenty days of life milk plays an exceptional role in the nutrition of babies, then its importance decreases later.

The first complementary foods for puppies should be organized as early as 3-4 weeks, when the animals themselves begin to look for new food sources.

Как

3-4 times a day, the puppy should be offered several pellets of dry food soaked in warm water to make it easier to eat. New foods should be offered before breastfeeding. In the early days of complementary foods, it is especially important that the portions are small so that the food is more easily digested by the digestive system. The complete transition to ready-made diets is completed at the age of 6-8 weeks.

Than

Almost all leading manufacturers have in their line of foods suitable for a puppy during the period of weaning from mother’s milk – such diets are, for example, Eukanuba, Acana, Pro Plan, Science Plan. Pedigree has developed the “First Food” diet for puppies of all breeds from three weeks old. It contains all the necessary nutrients. These are calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D3 and glucosamine for the proper formation of the musculoskeletal system; antioxidants for immunity, a special complex to maintain healthy skin and coat.

Regardless of which manufacturer you choose, the golden rule is the same: when transferring to a new food, the pet should be given only rations specially designed for puppies.
