It is necessary to accustom a dog to a diaper in childhood, until it is vaccinated and cannot go for walks. Some breeders give away already trained puppies, however, if you are not so lucky, this task is not so difficult.
Choose the room where the toilet will be
As soon as the puppy has appeared in your house, you need to choose a room in which his toilet will be located. Most often this is a kitchen or hallway. The first time you train your dog, it is best to limit its movement to this space. This can be done with 40-50 cm high partitions that do not present an obstacle for family members, but are an obstacle for the puppy.
Remove anything the puppy might like
This category includes carpets, rugs, rags – all soft things, because they are ideal for the role of a toilet in the presentation of a puppy.
Remember: once going to the carpet, the dog will repeat it again and again.
Gradually limit the space of the toilet
After the room is selected, it is necessary to designate a toilet place for the dog. This is usually a lengthy process, but with patience you should be able to do it.
The first option involves the use of diapers. Spread them all over the room. Noticing that the puppy went to one of the diapers, move it to the place where the toilet is supposed to be. Let her lie there until next time. If the puppy again went far from this place, take the newly soiled diaper and put it again in the place of the toilet. In this way, every day you will designate this space with the help of smell.
At the same time, you need to remove the diapers, which always remain clean. You need to start with those that are located far from the toilet. Be careful: if the puppy went to the floor, again place the diaper on this place.
The second method does not involve the use of a large number of diapers. You can lay one – where the toilet will be. Every time the puppy has eaten or woke up, carry him to the diaper.
What to look for
Special means. Veterinary shops sell many products that will help your puppy to toilet train. They are divided into two categories: the first attract to the place of the toilet, the second – scare away from those that are chosen unsuccessfully.
Encouragement and condemnation. If the puppy went to the diaper, praise him and give him a treat. If he missed, do not scold and even spank the dog. Puppies are extremely receptive at an early age and your stern tone will suffice.
In addition, if you notice the puddle late, there is no point in scolding the puppy at all. At best, the dog will not understand why you are angry, and at worst, it will decide that the “evidence” should be hidden.
In fact, all owners face the problem of accustoming a dog to a diaper to one degree or another. Even if the breeder has accustomed your pet, the dog will most likely be confused in the new house, and it will take time for it to get used to. Do not despair, in this case, as in no other, patience is important.
