Today, our reader Natalya Sokolova shares her experience of traveling with a four-legged friend. Recently, Natalia and her wonderful dog Lilusha visited the country of a thousand lakes – Finland – and were very pleased with the trip!

We read about the rules for transporting pets across the Finnish border and the necessary package of documents in her report. 

Finland is a country that is loyal to animals. Therefore, the decision to take a dog with us on a trip came to us almost immediately. We didn’t want to burden our friends with looking after a pet, besides, our Lilusha loves trips, and traveling together is much more interesting!  

Going on a trip, I began to search the Internet for a list of necessary documents for a dog and transportation rules. The information was rather scattered, and therefore I decided to share our practical experience with the readers. Perhaps he will be useful.

1. Bring the animal for examination to the state veterinary institution (any veterinary clinic in the neighborhood will not work; the state one is needed!).

2. Vet passport with:

  • a mark of a valid rabies vaccination (valid for only a year, plus it must be carried out no later than 30 days before your trip to the veterinarian for form No. 1, that is, at least 35 days before your departure abroad);
