How to properly distribute puppies

If your dog has brought unplanned offspring or you could not get past homeless puppies, tips on how to arrange their fate will come in handy.

When to start giving away puppies

No matter how much you want to quickly find a new home for the kids, you should not rush too much. If a puppy is separated from siblings before he is 4-6 weeks old, he will not learn important social skills in a team, which will complicate his further education.

On the other hand, overexposure of puppies is also undesirable. Not having enough contact with a person before 10 weeks of age, they can grow withdrawn and distrustful. It is best when, from the 6-8th week, the dog gets to know and communicates a lot with his owner.

If the puppies were picked up on the street

Try to take the foundlings to the veterinarian. The doctor will accurately determine their age, assess the condition and, if necessary, prescribe treatment. In addition, the specialist will be able to roughly predict the size of the dogs when they grow up: this is an important factor for potential owners.

10-14 days before vaccination, puppies should be treated with age-appropriate means against external and internal parasites (deworming). On the 8-9th week, you can start the basic vaccination. A veterinarian may recommend vaccination a little earlier if there is a high chance of puppies being infected with canine distemper and/or parvovirus enteritis.

How to find owners

Social networks are becoming more and more effective every year. At the same time, your personal account can work better than specialized communities, where the ad gets lost among many similar ones. Yes, communities usually have a larger audience, but if you manage to encourage people to repost, then yours will increase many times over.

To attract attention, you have to be almost a real marketer. Start with good photos. We are not talking about professional shots – enough photos from the phone, but clear and taken in good light. Don’t try to get little fidgets to purposefully pose: take them off while playing, sleeping, and other daily activities.

Dedicate short videos to the most interesting incidents: they are viewed and reposted more readily than photos.

In addition to visual information, textual information is also important. Accompany photos and videos with concise notes that reveal the nature of the puppies. Notice the individuality of each: one is a tireless explorer, and the other is a dreamer and romantic.

Post content regularly to create a mini-series about the life of puppies. So the reader will be able to follow their fate, empathize – and eventually fall in love with one of the fluffy babies in absentia.

Do not ignore the more traditional ways to convey information: newspaper ads, paper leaflets. The latter are best distributed where there are more chances to meet dog lovers – in pet stores and veterinary clinics. Ask the administration for permission to put or stick your flyer in a conspicuous place.

How to give away puppies

Having spent so much energy looking for a home for puppies, you should also take the final step seriously. Make sure potential dog owners are willing to take responsibility for the dog. These should be balanced, sane people who strive to learn as much as possible about the future pet and ask a lot of questions.

Do not give to children – ask them to come with their parents.

If we are talking about the offspring of your dog, then after the distribution of puppies, think about how to prevent a recurrence of a similar situation. Sterilization is the most humane and safest solution for your pet’s health.
