How to prepare a cat for walks on the street?

Probably, every cat owner has noticed more than once that his pet sits sadly at the window and looks at the huge world behind the glass, which is completely inaccessible to him. But the owner can at least try to give the pet the joy of joint walks and new discoveries.

Prepare

First of all, the owner, who decides to accustom a cat or cat to walks, should be patient and weigh the pros and cons. It is necessary to take into account both the nature of the pet and its age. The younger the animal, the easier it is for him to adapt. If your pet 10 or 12 years old saw the street only through the window, then perhaps you should not start accustoming to walking.

Before taking the animal out of the apartment, it is also necessary to fully vaccinate it, wait for quarantine (best of all, at least 3 weeks after vaccination) and treat it for parasites.

You need to start accustoming to walking with choosing the right ammunition. Cats are very different from dogs, they will not obediently trot behind you on a leash and can twist out of the collar quite easily. You will have to go after the cat, and it is best to take the animal out for a walk on a special harness.

Harness training

Walking with a cat will be completely impossible if you do not accustom it to a harness. Once you’ve bought the right size ammunition, put it near the cat’s place for a few days so that the pet gets used to it. Then (preferably before feeding) carefully fasten the harness on the cat. You need to be prepared for the fact that the cat will not like the new accessory. In no case do not scold your pet if he tries to remove the harness. It is better to praise for patience by treating a delicacy. Here is just the case when water wears away a stone. Gradually increase the amount of time the harness is worn, allowing the cat time to adapt.

Walking

Also, slowly and carefully, you need to start walking with your pet. The first walk is best done when it is relatively quiet outside. It is worth getting up early and going out for a walk when the city has not yet woken up. Hold the cat in your arms, letting it adapt, and then, if the cat does not show negative emotions, does not scream and does not try to wriggle out of your hands, completely crazy from what is happening, you can put it on the ground and give it time to master new territory. If the cat is frankly afraid and experiences severe discomfort, then the walk must be immediately interrupted.

Gradually increase the walking time if the pet is interested and does not show negative emotions. If the walks end in cat hysteria, then you should come to terms with the fact that the cat does not want to see the big world and the usual apartment is much nicer to her.
