How to keep the house clean if I have a kitten

It is difficult to find a creature in the world more touching than a little kitten. But these tiny cuties can turn the apartment upside down and require so much attention that there is no time left for cleaning. How to win in a difficult struggle with broken flower pots, scratched furniture, marks and wool? We will tell!

Let’s start with the main fears of novice parents: what if the baby will tear up furniture and go to the toilet wherever he wants?

To keep the apartment (and household) in order, give the kitten as many special toys from the pet store as possible. Without fail, purchase a scratching post, and preferably several: floor, wall, scratching post-column. Other “must-have” toys are teasers, a ball track that the kitten can play on its own without your participation, a toy to fill with treats, a mint leaf, balls and mice. Ideally, if space permits, equip a full-fledged multi-level cat town. The more interesting toys there are in your house, the less the kitten will be attracted to textured wallpapers and upholstered furniture.

Purchase an anti-scratch product from the pet store (such as Nature Miracle). Just in case, always keep it handy. If a kitten suddenly becomes addicted to sharpening its claws on your favorite chair, feel free to treat the upholstery. The next time, having felt a special smell, the kitten will change its mind to spoil the chair and go to the scratching post.

Toys are the best way to direct the kitten’s energy in the right direction and protect the house from sharp claws. It is important that this is not the only function of toys. You will soon find out how much they help in establishing contact with a kitten, in raising and adapting to a new place, and simply in creating a healthy, happy atmosphere for a little hunter.

How to keep the house clean if I have a kitten

Every cat breeder at least once in his life was afraid that his beloved fluffy would ignore the tray and go about business in every secluded corner. To prevent this from happening, it is important to properly equip the toilet for the pet from the very beginning. There are three main rules here:

  • the place for the toilet should be calm and secluded,

  • the tray should be comfortable for a small kitten,

  • the kitten should like the filler. A universal choice for babies is wood filler, it is a safe, environmentally friendly material.

Usually kittens from breeders immediately begin to go to the toilet without a miss, just show where it is. But if the kitten “misses” a couple of times, nothing bad will happen. In the end, the baby is just getting used to the new house. The main thing is to act correctly in case of a miss. How is that?

  • First, do not punish the kitten. The maximum that you can afford is a severe reprimand at the time of the offense. We hope you already know that physical punishment is prohibited: they do not work, but only aggravate the situation.

  • Second. If you find a kitten misbehaving, carefully take it to the tray.

  • Third. There is a very effective trick: take a napkin or cloth and moisten it with kitten urine. And then just put it in the tray. The next time the baby is impatient, he will catch the familiar smell and go where he needs to go, and not behind the cabinet.

  • And the last. From the case with the napkin, you already understood how important smells are for a kitten. The kid will go to the toilet in the place where his “mark” will already be. Therefore, it is very important to eliminate the smell from all the “random” areas of the apartment where the kitten was illegally marked. Ordinary water and laundry soap are powerless in this. It is better to use a special odor remover (for example, Nature Miracle) to be sure. A good tool will not only completely eliminate the smell, but also scare off the intruder. In the language of cat smells, it will look something like: “There is no place for a toilet here, you better run to the tray …”.

Or maybe you have encountered not just random misses, but real territory marks. Kittens start marking territory at puberty. If this is your case, you won’t get off with advice about the tray. You need to visit a veterinarian and discuss with him how to control the sexual activity of a pet.

Well, we have worked out the two most terrible fears. There is one more thing left: what to do with the fallen hair?

Everything here is solvable. We work in three areas:

  • we feed properly so that the coat and skin are healthy,

  • properly care for hair

  • bathe properly.

Let’s go over the points in more detail, shall we?

The baby should eat a special balanced superpremium kitten food. So you will be sure that he receives daily the norm of macro- and micronutrients, vitamins and minerals. Between a balanced diet and a healthy coat, you can put an equal sign. But if the food is of poor quality, the kitten’s hair can fall out a lot and literally fall asleep all around.

When shedding, in order to reduce the amount of hair falling out, you need to stock up on a suitable tool and comb the kitten regularly. The more wool remains on the comb, the less it will be on furniture and your things. In the fight against molting, the original furminator stands out from all the tools: it allows you to reduce the amount of shedding wool by 90%.

Do not forget to moisten the coat before combing with a special spray.

Maintaining a healthy coat and a neat appearance of a kitten is impossible without regular bathing. Cats, even the most domestic ones, are recommended to be washed once every 1 days: this is the cycle of renewal of epidermal cells. To wash a kitten, you will need a special shampoo and conditioner from the pet store, which will be suitable for the pet’s age and coat type.
