How to keep discus properly
Recently, aquarium keeping has become quite popular, so acquiring certain types of fish is not a difficulty. You can buy any type of fish to decorate your aquarium.
Discus is not an ordinary fish and in order to care for it, you need some knowledge in this area. At a mature age, the length of the discus reaches 15 cm, so a large aquarium is needed to keep them. As a rule, one fish should have about 15 liters of water. You also need to remember that discus is a schooling fish, so it is advisable to purchase not one, but a couple of such fish. For example, if you bought 4 discus, the aquarium should be 60 liters of water.
A specially treated soil is always placed on one aquarium. It is also good to use sand, fine gravel or river pebbles. Discus are not lovers of sunlight, they live in thickets of plants, where you can hide in the shade. The aquarium also welcomes such an atmosphere.
The best option is to give them a corner in the aquarium where to place various plants. This is to give the discus some freedom. You can also buy various fragments of pottery, where discus will also swim.
The light in the aquarium should be soft and fairly diffused. The water temperature is preferably from 28 to 31 degrees, and the acid-base balance should be 6,0 – 7,0. Also, the aquarium needs continuous aeration. Constantly monitor cleanliness.
It must be remembered that discus belong to the family of cichlids, which are predatory fish. This type of fish gets along well only with representatives of its family and with different catfish. Catfish in an aquarium are quite useful, as they can eat natural biological waste, as well as leftover food from the walls of the aquarium, soil and plants. In this way, they purify water from unwanted clogging.
