How to give pills to a cat

Even healthy cats and cats need deworming pills from time to time. But it is not so easy to force the owners of a peaceful character to swallow them. It is especially difficult to do this if the pet has a cold, poisoned or injured. Therefore, the owner needs to know how to give him a pill correctly and at the same time avoid scratches and bites himself.

How to give a pill to a cat so that he swallows the medicine without consequences

If the drug must be given with food, veterinarians advise not to give the whole tablet, but to mix it, for example, with pate, if possible, dissolve in water or crush it into powder. It happens that tablets are replaced with drops or solutions. Without pressure and stress, a cat is more likely to swallow unpleasant medicine. But not all drugs can be mixed with something. Therefore, you should know how to give a tablet to a cat so that she does not spit it out and choke.

Even a sick cat has a good sense of smell, so it can easily recognize a pill hidden in food. Rub it well and mix it, for example, with wet food – canned food or pouch. Place the animal on your lap and smear the mouth with this mixture. Time after time, the cat will lick it off the nose along with the medicine.

If you still need to give the whole pill, try not just toss it into your mouth. Place the tablet on the side of the root of the tongue and push it as far as possible. The animal will have no choice but to make a swallowing motion. If your cat is stubborn and unable to swallow, stroke her neck from top to bottom. She immediately has the right reflex. In order for the tablet to accurately enter the throat, draw water into the syringe and inject a small amount between the upper and lower jaw. Naturally, the syringe should be without a needle. Usually, a cat licks its nose with its tongue when swallowing a pill.

To prevent your cat from biting you, act confidently, but without pressure. You can protect your fingers from biting by using a tablet dispenser or introducer, which helps you quickly put a tablet at the very base of your pet’s tongue. You should fix the cat, open its mouth slightly and insert the tablet dispenser. Take some time to make sure she doesn’t spit out the medicine. After the manipulation, give your pet some treat or just caress it.

Can cats be given human medicines?

Animals should not be given human products unless directed by an experienced veterinarian. What is safe for humans can be harmful to a cat’s health. Paracetamol, analgin, aspirin are deadly for cats. Any antihistamines should be used strictly according to the prescription of a specialist. Again, the correct dose should only be prescribed by a veterinarian.

Do not treat the cat yourself and do not skimp on the veterinarian. Only he can, after examining the animal, explain what is wrong with him and how to cure him.
