How to discount dog treats

Sometimes owners complain that the dog turns up its nose at the treat, and it is impossible to interest it and motivate it to do it. Why is this happening? And how can you discount dog treats?

How to discount dog treats

First of all, this happens when the owners constantly stuff the dog with a variety of treats. And if sweets are given just like that and in large quantities, what’s the point of straining to earn them? Moreover, for the dog, the meaning of the execution of our commands is not at all obvious. If you were paid every day an amount that covers all your needs, would you, for additional compensation, do work that you do not understand the meaning of and which seems rather difficult to you? The dogs don’t want either.

We also devalue a treat when we give it to a dog for tasks that he has learned a long time ago and which are not difficult for him. That is, she gets a treat without any effort. So is it worth it to apply them to earn something tasty, if it will come straight into the mouth for less? Our best friends are rational beings and will not waste energy in vain. And then suddenly the bears will attack, and the dog has overworked in training.

Of course, no one is talking about starving a dog. But tasty treats should be given to the dog in doses and for real achievements, so as not to devalue them.

However, do not rush to the other extreme. Soberly assess the capabilities and skills of the dog, so as not to lower the bar, but also not to demand the impossible from the pet. Because if the task seems impossible to the four-legged friend, or he doesn’t understand you, the delicacy becomes something unattainable and, therefore, also not worth the unthinkable effort.
