What is dry shampoo for dogs?

Washing a pet in the traditional way is not always possible. There can be a variety of reasons for this. In order not to stress your dog or yourself every time, you can choose an alternative to washing in the bath – dry shampoo.

Dry shampoo is a powder that resembles talc in consistency. Herbal extracts and flavorings are usually added to it for an added effect.

Such shampoos are sold at any pet store, you can choose any option that suits your pet.

When Should You Use Dry Shampoo?

In the life of a dog breeder, there may be a variety of moments when the dog must be clean, but it is not possible to wash the four-legged with water and ordinary shampoo. That’s when dry shampoo comes in.

Here are examples of such situations:

  • On trips and hikes, where the dog will definitely get dirty.

  • The dog played and collected all the dust in the house, and you need to go for a walk or guests will come soon.

  • You are participating in an exhibition and you need to quickly put your pet’s coat in order.

  • You have a small puppy for whom every wash is additional stress and the risk of catching a cold.

  • The dog does not like to wash and after each bath it takes a long time to come to his senses.

Some dogs can behave very aggressively in the bath, which becomes traumatic for humans.

  • The pet must not bathe for some time for medical reasons, after operations, etc.

The circumstances may be different, but the meaning is the same – dry shampoo can sometimes help out the owner of a wet-nosed comrade.

Dry shampoo is suitable for dogs of a wide variety of colors. on wool it becomes colorless.

A few words about choosing a shampoo

  • Choose the tool of your choice. But do not forget that dry shampoo is not the same as regular shampoo.

  • Dogs can only be washed with a special shampoo for dogs. Your dry shampoo (even the best one) will not work for your pet.

  • Give preference to the lines of premium brands – professional cosmetics. So you can be sure of their safety and effectiveness.

  • If possible, choose products within the same brand. As a rule, they are well combined with each other and enhance the effect of each other.

  • If you find it difficult to choose a product from a huge variety of brands, consult a specialist.

How to use dry shampoo?

All you need is to apply the powder on the dog’s coat, wait a couple of minutes and comb it well. Together with the remnants of dry shampoo, impurities, keratinized skin flakes and excess sebum will go away.

If you can use a hair dryer, do so. Just do not turn on the hot air, so as not to burn the dog. If the pet is afraid of the sound of the hair dryer, then you will have to go through the comb thoroughly to remove all the powder from the coat.

The powder not only eliminates dirt, but also absorbs moisture and traces of urine. As a bonus – a pleasant smell from the dog due to the flavors in the shampoo.

Dry shampoo will perfectly help out the owner in some situations and will allow the doggie not to “stress” from washing once again. But you can not use the powder on an ongoing basis. It will not replace bathing with shampoo and conditioner.

It’s the same as if you were to constantly apply dry shampoo to your hair instead of washing your hair. After a few procedures, the hair will look so-so, not to mention skin problems. The same applies to dogs.

Choose the right dry shampoo and use it only when needed.
