Medications to calm a cat in heat

There are a fairly large number of drugs that regulate sexual hunting in cats. Basically, these drugs are aimed at delaying the phase of estrus or interrupting the hunt that has already begun. The main principle when choosing a drug is its quality and safety for your pet. When choosing a particular remedy, you should charmingly consult with a veterinarian. He will select the drug that is right for your cat. You should not listen to the advice of neighbors and well-wishers who are delighted with some kind of remedy. Each drug has its own set of contraindications. The main ones are:

  • The presence of tumors.
  • Pregnancy and lactation.
  • Pathologies of the reproductive (reproductive) system.
  • Disorders of the pancreas.
  • Liver dysfunction.
  • Disorders of the endocrine system.

These drugs are divided into:

  • hormonal
  • sedatives (relaxation). They, in turn, are divided into synthetic and natural, which include herbal preparations that have a slight sedative effect.

Hormonal preparations for cats and their action

Anti-anxiety hormonal drugs are given to cats that have reached puberty to interrupt and delay the estrus phase in the cat and reduce sexual activity in cats. The action of these drugs is:

  • blocking the production of gonadotropic hormones, cessation of ovulation and hunting in cats
  • suppression of testosterone production, decreased sexual activity of cats.

But do not forget that improper use or an incorrectly selected drug can lead to a deterioration in the health of your pet. They can result in the formation of tumors, the development of pyometra, the formation of ovarian cysts, etc.

Sedative preparations for cats and their action

Sedative drugs, unlike hormonal ones, are safer. They do not interrupt sexual desire in animals, but have a mild sedative, analgesic, anxiolytic (weakening the feeling of fear), antispasmodic effect and simply smooth out the manifestations of sexual activity. In any case, prescribing a drug to calm a cat during estrus is the task of a specialist. Let’s take good care of our pets!
