What and how to brush your dog’s teeth?

First, the dog must have an individual toothbrush. Ordinary human brushes will not work: they have too coarse bristles. But you can use a children’s brush designed for children under three years old. In pet stores, such brushes are sold in a wide range, for every taste and color. There are also rules for choosing a toothbrush, namely:

  • The brush should have soft bristles.
  • The shape should allow you to get into hard-to-reach places.
  • Choose a brush based on the size of the pet.
  • The brush must be safe.
  • Fingertip brushes penetrate well, but will not protect you from an accidental bite.
  • If your pet is afraid of brushes, you can choose a sponge.

The second question is toothpaste. Toothpaste is not suitable for humans! Choose a paste specifically made for dogs. She has a specific taste, as a rule, dogs like it. Train your dog to brush their teeth from an early age. Don’t forget to reward your pet for patience. The procedure itself is best done when the dog is calm and relaxed. If you are unable to brush your dog’s teeth yourself, you can rely on special toys, treats, sprays to help clean teeth. Once a week, be sure to inspect the oral cavity. If suddenly you see that a brown-yellow plaque has appeared on your teeth, redness, sores, gums become loose and bleed, it is better to contact a specialist for qualified help. After all, these signs can indicate very unpleasant diseases, for example, tartar and periodontal disease.
