How often should you wash your dog in the fall?
Autumn is a wonderful time. But walking with a pet turns into a real test. You do not have time to leave the house, as it is already wet and dirty. And this unpleasant smell from wool, which appears due to humidity in many dogs … I want to give my pet a fragrant bath every day (or better after each walk). But take your time! About how often you can wash your dog and how to maintain its neat appearance, we will tell in our article.
The wild relatives of dogs do fine without bathing, but they don’t live in city apartments. Look at the outside of your windows. It is hardly crystal clear.
Now imagine: all this dust settles daily on your pet’s coat during walks. Add to this the autumn slush. Where does all this pollution end up? That’s right, on your floor, furniture and linen. And also in the digestive tract of a dog, which is also not good.
Therefore, the solution is obvious: a domestic dog can and should be bathed. But it’s important to do it right.
There is no single rule for all breeds. The frequency of water procedures depends on the individual characteristics of the dog and on the situation outside the window. In autumn and spring, dogs get dirty more and more often than in winter and summer. The skin of hairless and short-haired dogs, for example, gets dirty faster on its own. It allocates a greater amount of fat to protect against external factors, because such dogs have either little or almost no hair.
After each walk, it is enough to wash the dog’s paws and muzzle, and remove dirt from the coat with a brush. If you wash your dog often, it is better to use warm water and a special conditioner for this. After washing, the dog must be thoroughly dried with a hair dryer. If the coat is left damp, the skin under the coat will rot. And this can lead to dermatological diseases.
To keep your dog looking neat, it is recommended to bathe him once every three weeks, since the skin cell renewal cycle is 1 days.
It is strictly not recommended to use products that are not intended for pets to wash the dog. Choose special gentle shampoos (by the way, there are special lines for paws and beards). They can be used frequently, after every walk. They will not dry out the skin and coat, but, on the contrary, will improve their condition.
When choosing a remedy, it is important to carefully read the instructions and follow the instructions. Choose a line that suits your pet in terms of length and type of coat, color, skin type and even age. There are separate products for puppies and adult dogs.
After shampooing, be sure to use a conditioner, preferably of the same line. Why is it important? Shampoo washes away not only dirt, but also a protective layer from the skin. And the conditioner restores it. As a result, the dog will not have irritation and dryness of the skin, and the coat will take on a radiant appearance.
Be careful: unsuitable bathing products provoke dermatological problems and deterioration in the quality and color of the coat. One wrong bath can lead to the fact that you will be long and dreary to restore the healthy appearance of the dog.
We wish your dogs pleasant baths and impeccable appearance!
