Hornwort dark green
Dark green hornwort, scientific name Ceratophyllum demersum. It is found everywhere on all continents except Antarctica. It grows in many stagnant reservoirs or sections of rivers with a slow current, completely submerged in water or fixed on the bottom.
It is worth noting that under one name, in fact, several closely related species are hidden, which can only be distinguished by flowers, but they appear extremely rarely in an artificial environment. Otherwise they are identical. They have a long stem, growing up to a meter in length, on which modified dissected leaves are located, which have turned into something like needles. The leaves are brittle and tough unlike another popular aquarium plant, the light green hornwort.
This plant has been known in the aquarium hobby since its inception as such. The reason for such a long popularity is simple – the dark green hornwort is unpretentious and perfectly adapts to growth in a wide variety of conditions. It is also known for its ability to rapidly absorb nutrients dissolved in water, thereby inhibiting algae growth. It grows quickly and requires regular trimming to avoid overgrowth.
