Hemianthus Cuba
Hemianthus Cuba, scientific name Hemianthus callitrichoides. One of the smallest aquarium plants, reaching only 1 cm in height. It grows in South and Central America, was first discovered near the city of Havana in Cuba. It has been used in the aquarium trade only since 2003, but during this time it has become one of the most popular plants among professionals working in the style of a natural aquarium.
Difficult to maintain, not recommended for beginner aquarists. Hemianthus makes high demands on the composition of mineral substances, needs fine-grained soil, a high level of lighting and artificial introduction of carbon dioxide. The need for bright light limits the use of this plant in large aquariums, where substrate lighting may be insufficient, but in nano aquariums this problem is not present, where it is most common. Their small size also played a positive role. In favorable conditions, it grows rapidly, covering the surface of the substrate with a thick green “carpet”.
