Golden fish “Phoenix”

Phoenix goldfish, English trade name Blue phoenix goldfish. A distinctive feature is the monochromatic gray-blue color of the body with a lighter silvery belly. It was first bred in China in the 18th century. It is a continuation of another breeding variety – the Egg-shaped Goldfish, from which the body shape and the absence of the dorsal fin were inherited.

Golden fish Phoenix

In Europe and America, it appeared relatively late, only in 1996 by exporting the first single samples from Hong Kong. Currently, the Phoenix Goldfish (sometimes simply called Blue) has become an integral part of international exhibitions and has spread widely throughout the world.

According to the recommendations drawn up for the judges and jury of the exhibitions, fish of an egg-shaped body with a large forked tail fin, which is at least half the length of the whole fish, are considered a classic specimen of this species. The pelvic and pectoral fins are symmetrical, about the same size and shape. The head is small and pointed. The fish should be a strong swimmer, without signs of clumsiness, weakness or imbalance, which often characterizes many ornamental varieties such as Ranchu, Ryukin, Zhemchuzhina and others.

Maintenance and care

The content features are similar to other Goldfish. The aquarist will need to provide a spacious aquarium with clean, relatively cool water rich in dissolved oxygen. Formatting is not essential. The hydrochemical composition of water can be in a fairly wide range of values, it is important to avoid sudden changes in pH and dGH.

Will accept most popular dry, frozen and live foods. Although according to the judges’ criteria, the fish should be an active swimmer, it will still be inferior in activity to other mobile species, so it will probably lose out to them in the competition for food. This should definitely be taken into account when choosing aquarium neighbors.
