Egg-shaped goldfish

Egg-shaped Goldfish, the English trade name Egg-fish Goldfish, is known as Maruko in Japan. The name indicates a characteristic feature – the shape of the body, resembling an egg with a smooth back in the form of an arch, on which there is no dorsal fin. There are two breeding lines – long-tailed and short-tailed. The rest of the fins are the same size and quite small.

Egg-shaped goldfish

It is considered one of the most ancient Chinese breeds of Goldfish. It is the forerunner of such varieties as Water Eyes, Stargazer, Lionhead, Ranchu and others.

Coloring and body pattern can be very diverse, combining yellow (gold), orange, red, white, black colors and shades. The most spectacular is the blue form, known as the Phoenix Goldfish.

Maintenance and care

The egg-shaped Goldfish makes identical requirements for its content as other relatives. Optimum conditions are achieved in a spacious aquarium with relatively cool oxygenated water. Able to thrive in a wide range of pH and dGH values, making water treatment easy for the aquarist.

It is important to regularly maintain the aquarium – weekly replace part of the water with fresh water and remove organic waste (food leftovers, excrement, etc.)

The design is arbitrary and is selected at the discretion of the aquarist. It is recommended to provide open areas for swimming and prevent overgrowth of aquatic plants.

Anatomical features – a heavy body and the absence of a dorsal fin – do not contribute to active swimming. Due to their slowness, these fish will lose competition for food to more active neighbors, therefore, as the latter, it is advisable to select similar slow-moving species (necessarily peaceful), for example, the same Goldfish.

The basis of the diet will be most of the popular foods in the aquarium trade in dry, frozen and live form.
