Gastromizon Monticola
Gastromyzon Monticola, scientific name Gastromyzon monticola, belongs to the family Balitoridae (River Loaches). Endemic to the island of Borneo (Kalimantan), found only in the Tampassuk River basin, which flows through the territory of a small region of Kudat – the northernmost and smallest region of the Malaysian state of Sabah. The river originates in the Kinabalu National Park.
This species is not commonly seen in the aquarium trade, but is sought after by collectors. Adult fish reach a length of up to 8 cm. Sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed, females are somewhat larger than males. The pattern of the upper body is spotted, turning into waves on the sides. Coloring combines black and gray colors.
