It is important that the food for lactating dogs covers the energy costs. It is better to consult with a competent specialist in order to properly change the diet of a bitch during pregnancy and feeding puppies. Change should be gradual.

The first time food for a lactating dog is offered 5 to 6 hours after birth, but fresh water should always be available. A lactating bitch should be fed at least 3 times a day. Calculate portions so that the mother can feed the offspring, but at the same time avoid obesity.

A lactating dog may need to supplement their food with vitamins and minerals. However, you should not do it thoughtlessly, because an excess of these substances is no less dangerous than their lack. Therefore, be sure to check with your veterinarian before including any supplements in your diet.

If you are feeding your bitch dry food, you should choose premium or super premium products for pregnant and lactating bitches. Perhaps it makes sense to replace dry food with wet food.
