Types of Aquarium Plants

Echinodorus Berthera

Echinodorus Bertera, scientific name Echinodorus berteroi. The range of growth extends from North to South America, most often found on the islands of the Caribbean. It grows in water bodies that dry up from season to season. It is an annual plant, the active phase of the life cycle falls on only a few wet months – from seed germination at the bottom of a temporary reservoir, to flowering and wilting, when the water has already disappeared.

Echinodorus Berthera

Echinodorus Berthera changes significantly as the environment evolves and changes. Young underwater sprouts have light green elongated lanceolate leaves. Upon reaching the surface, swimming oval leaves appear. With a further decrease in the water level, a new form of leaves appears on long petioles – heart-shaped. Then flowering occurs with the formation of seeds. Flowers are small. The fruits are spiny balls. However, if the plant continues to be in the aquatic environment, as happens in aquariums, then it freezes in its development and retains its original appearance.

It can grow both in aquariums and in paludariums, but in the latter case, the life of the plant will be short until the first flowering. Not demanding, perfectly adapts to a wide range of temperatures and hydrochemical values. As a rule, it does not need additional feeding when in a tank with fish, which are a natural source of nutrients.
