Bucephalandra Sintang

Bucephalandra pygmy “Wavy Leaf” or Bucephalandra pygmy Sintang, scientific name Bucephalandra pygmaea “Bukit Kelam/Sintang”. Comes from Southeast Asia from the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. The plant got its name from the area where it was found – the Bukit Kelam region in the Sintang district of West Kalimantan province. In nature, it grows on stones along the banks of mountain rivers, forming dense clusters. The plant was brought to Europe in 2011. It has now gained great popularity in the aquarium trade, due to its unpretentiousness and relatively rapid growth.

Bucephalandra Pygmy “Wavy Leaf” is able to grow both in wet paludariums and completely submerged in water. The shape of the leaves resembles a strongly elongated oval, tapering at the point of attachment with the stem. The blade of the leaf reaches a maximum of 5 cm in length and 2 in width at its widest point. The edge is wavy. young leaves light green, the old ones become noticeably darker. Not infrequently single flowers appear on long stems. In the above-water position, the stem is short, under water it is noticeably lengthened.

The plant is not intended for planting in the ground. Able to grow only on a solid surface: stones, driftwood, rocks, decorative items. They grow in dense, low clusters, forming a continuous green “veil”.
