Character
The small Danish-Swedish Farmdog is a relatively young breed. It is easy to guess that two countries are considered her homeland at once. Scandinavian farmers often got such dogs to work on the site: the pets were known as excellent rat-catchers and ringing guards.
European kennel clubs officially recognized the Danish-Swedish Gardhund only in 1987, and the FCI tentatively registered it in 2008.
Despite the fact that outwardly the Danish-Swedish gardhund resembles a terrier, experts attribute it to pinschers and schnauzers. Differences are not only in the exterior, but also in behavior. Representatives of this breed are gentle, balanced and calm, they do not have the sharpness and cockiness of terriers.
The Scandinavian gardhund is easy to train , and a novice owner can also train with him under the control of a cynologist. A responsive and attentive pet will try to please the owner with its obedience.
The Danish-Swedish Farmdog cannot be called phlegmatic. This is a very active and friendly breed. Its representatives are always ready to have fun, run and play.
The most valuable quality of their character is efficiency. It is for this that European farmers fell in love with these animals.
Behaviour
Danish-Swedish gardhunds make decent defenders. They are distrustful of strangers, in addition, they have well-developed guard instincts. Don’t be put off by the size of your pet. Bold and courageous, he is ready to stand up for himself and his “flock”.
By the way, the hunting instincts of the Danish-Swedish dogs are quite pronounced. Therefore, in the same house with hamsters, rats and other domestic rodents, representatives of this breed do not get along well.
The Danish-Swedish Gardhund is gentle with small children. Best of all, dogs communicate with school-age children – they easily find a common language in the process of joint walks and games.
Danish-Swedish Farmdog Care
The short coat of the Danish-Swedish Gardhund does not require much maintenance. During the shedding period, the dog should be combed out with a stiff brush or furminator. The rest of the time, it is enough to wipe the pet with a damp hand or towel to get rid of the fallen hairs.
A farm dog has floppy ears, which means that the animals are prone to developing otitis media and other similar diseases. That is why it is very important to monitor the pet’s hygiene: every week it is necessary to examine and clean his ears , eyes and teeth in time .
Conditions of detention
The Danish-Swedish Gardhund feels great in a city apartment. The only thing he needs is regular long walks. This is a sports breed, so you can take part in frisbee and even agility competitions with your pet.
