It inhabits the upper basin of the Iguazu River on the territory of the Argentine province of the same name, “sandwiched” between Brazil and Paraguay. A typical biotope is a shallow river with dense coastal aquatic vegetation, represented mainly by the Uruguayan Echinodorus (Echinodorus uruguayensis). The habitats are subject to significant seasonal fluctuations in volume, turbidity, hydrochemistry and water temperature.

Description

Adult individuals reach a length of about 4 cm. Outwardly, it resembles other closely related species, such as Corydoras Erhardt, Speckled catfish. It is distinguished by the presence of two large, indistinct, dark spots in the middle of each side.

Maintenance and care

Carla’s Corydoras is a good choice for home freshwater aquariums. Its content is within the power of even novice aquarists, provided that a few simple rules are observed. The first is a spacious aquarium from 60–80 liters for a group of 4–6 fish with soft ground and several shelters at the bottom. As the latter, artificial or natural driftwood, plants and other design elements are suitable. The second is the maintenance of clean water within the acceptable range of hydrochemical parameters. Comfortable water temperature should be somewhat lower than for other Cory catfish. The third is a balanced diet of quality foods. For example, sinking dry, freeze-dried or frozen food can become the basis of the diet. Fourth – the absence of aggressive territorial neighbors in the aquarium. Catfish Corydoras Karla get along well with other miniature fish. They prefer to be in the company of relatives, so it is recommended to purchase a group of 4 individuals.
