Cat grooming tools

The basic tools for grooming a cat depend on the breed and coat type. You may need a special nail cutter, comb, brush, slicker, special toothpaste and toothbrush.

Cotton balls can also come in handy to wipe the muzzle and remove secretions from the corners of the eyes – this is especially important for Persian cats.

Brushing your teeth is an important part of caring for your cat. It’s best to ask your veterinarian the first time to show you how to properly brush your cat’s teeth using toothpaste and a cat toothbrush. It is advisable to accustom the cat to this procedure from a very early age.

There are signs that can signal problems with the teeth of a cat:

  1. Bad breath.
  2. Inflammation of the gums in a cat.
  3. Formation of tartar and plaque.
  4. Difficulty eating dry food.
  5. Decreased appetite.
  6. Salivation.
  7. Enlargement of lymph nodes.

If you notice any of these signs, it is best to contact your veterinarian.

Long-haired cats need to be brushed daily to prevent tangles. The tools that are necessary for caring for a cat’s coat are a comb and a brush. It is better to use a comb with rare teeth and a natural bristle brush. You may also need a wire slicker and rake combs.

To care for a short-haired cat, you will need a rubber mitten or a bristle brush. The comb helps remove loose hairs. And the stroking soft touches of a suede glove will not only improve the appearance of the cat, but also give her pleasure.

You may be faced with the need to bathe your cat. To do this, you need the following supplies: a container that is stable and deep enough so that the cat does not turn it over and does not jump out, special shampoo for washing cats, a jug for rinsing and a towel to dry the cat.

It is better to accustom a cat to all care procedures from infancy and alternate grooming sessions with play. The first grooming sessions should be very short (no more than a couple of minutes).

Regular care of a cat will also help to identify problems with teeth, ears, claws, skin and coat in time, notice the presence of parasites and prevent or stop possible diseases in time.
