Before surgery

Before the procedures, you need to make sure that the pet has been given all the necessary vaccinations in a timely manner. Your pet’s stomach should be empty at the time of surgery, so check with your veterinarian when to stop feeding your cat.

In the clinic, the animal is placed in a cage – this is stressful for him, because other animals are constantly nearby, and there is no secluded place where he could hide. So that the pet is not nervous, it is better to take care of his comfort in advance: bring him to the clinic in a convenient container, take your favorite toy and bedding with you. Familiar smells and things will calm the cat a little.

After operation

After everything is over, the animal will feel unwell, so you should not disturb him once again. Give your pet antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs prescribed by your doctor as needed.

The animal may experience stress and because of the return home. The smell marks that the cat leaves around the apartment can disappear during her absence. It turns out that visually she recognizes her territory, but she will still be very disoriented.

Caring for an animal after surgery is quite simple:

  • Place the cat in a secluded and warm place, stroke it and let it rest for a while: it should feel safe;

  • Offer food and water (as agreed with the veterinarian);

  • Keep your cat at home until the stitches heal. In the clinic, the doctor can pick up a special collar that will not allow the pet to lick the stitches and the wound.

After 1-2 weeks, the animal should be shown to the doctor and the stitches removed, if necessary. Sometimes the stitches are applied with special threads, which dissolve over time, then they do not need to be removed, but this does not cancel a visit to the doctor. The veterinarian should check the condition of the wound, tell how to properly care for the animal.
