Types of Aquarium Plants

Calliergonella pointed

Calliergonella pointed, scientific name Calliergonella cuspidata. Widely distributed in temperate climates throughout the world, including Europe. Found in wet or damp soil. Typical habitats are illuminated meadows, swamps, river banks, it also grows on garden and park lawns with abundant watering. In the latter case, it is considered a weed. Due to its wide distribution, it is rarely found commercially (easily found in nature) and, as a rule, rarely used in aquariums, although it is actively cultivated by some enthusiasts. Moss is able to perfectly adapt to growth in a completely submerged state.

Calliergonella pointed

Calliergonella pointed forms branched shoots with a thin but strong rigid “stem”. In low light, the shoots stretch vertically, the lateral branches are shortened, the leaves are less dense, as if they were thinned out. In bright light, the branching intensifies, the leaves are denser, thereby the moss begins to look more lush. The leaves themselves are yellow-green or light green pointed lanceolate. With an excess of light, reddish hues appear, most often this occurs in the surface position.

In aquariums, it is used as a floating plant or fixed (for example, with a fishing line) on any surface. Unlike some other mosses and ferns, it is not able to independently attach itself to the soil or snags with rhizoids. Perfect for the transition zone between water and earth in paludariums and Wabi Kusa. It is not demanding on the growing environment, however, it develops the most lush “bushes” at a high level of illumination and good reserves of trace elements, carbon dioxide. Under these conditions, placers of oxygen bubbles appear between the leaves.
