Californian guinea pigs have a characteristic color – solid color with dark pigment on the nose, ears and feet and dark “glasses” around the eyes.

California guinea pigs are very similar to Himalayan guinea pigs. The same smooth-haired, with a dark pigment. , but with one significant difference – they have dark eyes, while the Himalayan pigs have red ones.

Unlike Himalayan guinea pigs, Californian guinea pigs can have points not only black or chocolate, but also lilac and beige. Also, when the Himalayan genes c(h)c(h) and the Californian gene are combined, the pig phenotypically looks like the Himalayan, but with less pronounced points.
