The history of the Budyonnovsky breed of horses

When the civil war ended, the stud farms were ruined, and many years of experience were lost. However, the army needed horses that could form the backbone of the cavalry. And at the stud farms of the Rostov region, they remembered the experiments on crossing stallions of the breed and mares.

So, in the 20s of the 20th century at the stud farm. Budyonny began breeding a new breed of horses. Three thoroughbred riding stallions became the ancestors of the Budyonnovsky breed of horses: Inferno, Kokas and Sympathyaga. But the Budennovskaya breed of horses received official recognition only in 1948.

In the 50s of the 20th century, it was possible to improve the exterior of the Budennovsky horses thanks to the use of a stallion named Krubilnik as a sire.

In the 60s of the 20th century, the role of the horse in the army and the economy declined sharply, however, the horses of the Budennovskaya breed proved themselves well in sports, so the breed was saved. A considerable advantage was the unpretentiousness of the Budennovsky horses to the conditions of detention.

Today, Budyonny horses are used mainly in sports. Horses of the Budennovskaya breed are bred mainly in the Rostov region (Russia).
