Bacopa Salzman
Bacopa salzmann, scientific name Bacopa salzmannii. Widespread throughout the tropical Americas, from Mexico to Paraguay. It grows along the banks of lakes, backwaters of rivers and other bodies of water with a slow current. Grows both above and below water.
Plants of this species, growing in different regions, can be quite different from each other. This led to confusion when the same species was supplied under different names. For example, in the US it is known as Bacopa sp. “Araguaia”, and in Europe – Bacopa sp. Purple.
Outwardly, it resembles Bacopa Karolinska, it has a long erect stem, on which two rounded dense leaves are arranged in pairs. The surface of the leaves is velvety, covered with short thin hairs. The color is different and depends on external conditions: it can be green, with red tints or purple. It was the coloring that at one time led to the confusion described above. In favorable conditions, upon reaching the surface, they can give an arrow with flowers.
Bacopa salzman is one of the unpretentious and hardy aquarium plants. The amount of light and minerals in the soil affects the color. In low light and a poor substrate, the color of the leaves will be green, respectively, bright light and nutritious soil will contribute to the manifestation of the red color scheme. It is worth noting that the health of this plant cannot be judged by the color of the leaves. And green and purple shades are quite normal.
