Azolla comb

Azolla comb, scientific name Azolla cristata. It is widely distributed throughout South and North America, occurring in almost all reservoirs with stagnant water or a slow current. In nature, it forms dense accumulations on the surface of the water, as well as along the banks in a humid environment.

In the aquarium trade, it is known under a different name – Azolla caroline, which in turn is a synonym for Azolla fern. Both species are similar to each other and differ mainly in the structure of the spores and other microscopic features. The only visible difference is that in Azolla comb, the shoots grow more compactly and lie on the water, while in Azolla fern they protrude beyond the surface.

This fern, like other lower plants, is completely unpretentious and can grow successfully in various conditions. It can be added to an aquarium or pond and no longer paid attention to it. The only thing required is the periodic removal of the overgrown Azolla cluster.
