Appearance of Aratinga Finsch
Finsha’s Aratinga is a medium-sized parrot with a long tail. The average body length is about 20 cm, weight up to 170 gr. Both sexes are colored the same. The main color of the body of the Aratinga Finsch is grassy green, interspersed with red on the neck and wings. There is a red spot on the forehead. Chest and belly with an olive tint. Flight feathers in wings and tail are yellowish. The beak is powerful, flesh-colored. Paws are grey. The periorbital ring is naked and white. The eyes are orange.
The life expectancy of an Aratinga Finsch with proper care can be about 15 to 20 years.
Habitat and life in nature Aratinga Finsch
The Aratinga Finsha is found in western Panama, eastern Costa Rica, and southern Nicaragua. Heights are kept at the level of 1400 meters above sea level in tropical and subtropical zones. They also live in lowland forests and open spaces with isolated trees. In Panama, cultivated land is preferred, including coffee plantations.
Finsch’s aratingas feed on flowers, fruits, various seeds, cultivated cereals and corn.
Outside the breeding season, up to 30 individuals can gather in flocks. Sometimes up to a hundred can gather, sitting high on palm trees and other trees.
Reproduction of Aratinga Finsch
Presumably the nesting period of Finsch’s aratinga falls on July. The female lays 3-4 eggs in the nest and incubates them for about 23 days. Feathered chicks of Finsch’s aratinga leave the nest at the age of 2 months.
