Character

The Arabian Mau is a native breed that has inhabited the territory of the modern Middle East for more than 10 centuries. These graceful and strong cats lived in the desert for a long time, keeping people away, but over time their lifestyle changed. Today they are frequent guests on the streets of the cities of the UAE and Qatar. The breed was recognized by the WCF in 2008, and only one kennel in Dubai officially breeds them.

The Arabian Mau is a strong, able to stand up for itself cat. She has a strong body and freedom-loving character. At the same time, Mau are strongly attached to the family, love to play, get along well with children. With their affectionate disposition, they bribe future owners, but it must be remembered that the “children of the desert” obey only their equals. The owner of the Arabian Mau must have endurance in order to become the leader for the pet.

Representatives of this breed are used to protecting their territory from strangers, so they do not get along well with other pets. Arabians do not tolerate excessive attention to themselves, especially if it consists in restricting freedom of movement, and therefore they will not fit the role of a toy pet. These cats will make great companions for those looking for a smart look and an equal relationship.

Arabian Mau Care

The Arabian Mau has excellent physical and mental health, not spoiled by selection, so it is not characterized by chronic diseases.

The adult Arabian Mau has a thick, rough and short coat. During molting, it is advisable to comb the pet, it is also necessary to regularly trim the claws and keep the teeth clean . You don’t need to bathe him very often, but at least once every six months.

Now the Arabian Mau is becoming more and more popular. However, this is a rare breed that is not so easy to get outside of the United Arab Emirates. These cats are characterized by a rather large palette of colors: from plain black to white-red tabby, so it is difficult to determine the fake breed by color. Remember that it has an important feature – the absence of undercoat. That is why, if you are offered a muscular cat that looks like an Arabian Mau, but has an undercoat, do not trust the seller.

Conditions of detention

In an apartment, the Mau should be able to conquer peaks and rest in a secluded corner. His tray and bowl should be located in an easily accessible, but not too open place. Due to its origin, the Arabian Mau perfectly tolerates heat and cold, therefore it does not require the creation of a special temperature regime in the apartment.

To maintain health, Mau should lead an active lifestyle. In their natural habitat, they move a lot: they run, jump, overcome various obstacles, and therefore they need walks in their home life. However, this does not mean that you can let the cat out and wait for her return. Such an attitude is fraught with undesirable consequences: pregnancy of a cat, rabies, accident or death of an animal. Therefore, you need to walk with your pet, holding it on a special cat leash . The frequency of walks depends on the activity of the pet, on average twice a week is enough to release the accumulated energy.
