Content and behavior
In nature, fish live in creeks and slow-flowing sections of rivers among many snags and fallen leaves of trees. The water is usually brown in color.
They are considered relatively peaceful in relation to other species, which is not surprising in view of their modest size – adults reach an average length of about 8 cm. Inside the species, not everything is so harmonious. If the females are quite friendly, then the males are not too hospitable towards each other, and during the spawning period they can even enter into skirmishes over the territory. At this time, females are also attacked, therefore, to protect them, it is necessary to provide reliable shelters, which, moreover, can serve as a “nursery” where fry will develop in the first days of their lives. In small aquariums, it is recommended to maintain a group size of one male and three or more females.
