A story about not betraying friends

We have a very old dog named Argo living in our yard. He is 14 years old, American Staffordshire Terrier breed.

One day I met him on a walk and was horrified. The dog was emaciated and felt very unwell. As a veterinarian, I had a legitimate question for the owner: “What are you doing at the same time?” It turned out that he had already traveled to a thousand clinics, but there is still no clearance. Multiple diagnosis and it is not clear what to treat.

I offered my help and was amazed – you rarely meet a person who is ready to give everything just so that his friend stays with him even a little more. How much effort and money was invested in the dog, beyond words. And the owner had to go through a lot – feeding from a syringe, many hours of droppers, a huge number of sleepless nights, scheduled medications ….

At some terrible moment, the question of euthanasia arose. But in the end, the owner of Argo called me and said that he was not ready yet, that they would still fight. About a week passed, I saw them on the run and came up to see how they were doing. In fact, I already thought that the dog was gone. It turned out that after our conversation with him about euthanasia, Argo got up and went to the bowl of food, as if he understood the host’s fighting spirit.

It’s been two months since this story. In life, you can’t say what they have behind them. Perhaps only venerable age and slowness distinguish Argo from other dogs in the yard. This is a magnificent tandem, where a man and an elderly dog ​​exist in the same rhythm.

This is a story that friends are not betrayed, even if they have a tail and four legs.
