A few basic rules

Don’t cater to your pet’s every whim A few basic rules

Your puppy is growing, and so is his need for self-assertion. For battles, puppies usually choose the time of feeding. But if you give in, you will make a mistake. It is necessary to let him know that you will not satisfy any of his requirements. You also need to make sure that the puppy perceives you and your family as part of the world around him. For example, puppies may overprotect their territory and bowl and growl at you if you approach him while eating. Such behavior can become anti-social in the future and present a serious problem, so you should stop it. It is not that difficult and only requires your patience. Follow our advice and your puppy will become the most well-mannered dog.

Less is more.

Put some food in your puppy’s bowl and move away. When he has eaten, come over and put some more in. In the end, he will look forward to your appearance.

Make him happy

If your puppy is happy, then you will see how he will begin to wag his tail when you approach. You need to teach him to be calm about the fact that you approach him during meals.

And now all together

Now you can put the whole portion of food at once. Stand or sit next to him and add treats to the bowl while he eats. Talk to him affectionately and stroke him lightly as you put the treat in the bowl. Do this for a few feedings until your puppy begins to calmly accept your actions.

And more

Your puppy needs to understand that all people around him, especially small children, can behave unpredictably. But he must also learn that such behavior does not pose a threat to him. You can help him with this by imitating the behavior of children: try to abruptly approach his bowl, and then put a treat in it. Gently push him to the side while he eats, roll toys on the floor next to him – do anything to distract his attention, and give a reward if he continues to eat calmly despite your best efforts. Do this often, but not every feeding. If your puppy freezes with a full mouth, growls or stares at you, stop and try another time. If the situation does not change, it is best to consult a professional trainer. Learn more about Training
