9 rules for autumn dog walks
The beginning of autumn is the golden time for walking the dog. The heat is gone, and the cold has not yet come – so you can trample all your favorite parks from the heart. And in order for the walks to be cozy and safe, you need to follow a number of rules. Here they are.
- Walks should be active. The cooler it is outside the window, the more the dog needs to move. Of course, do not forget about the individual characteristics of the pet: each dog has its own need for activity. It would be cruel to force a French Bulldog to run a marathon and a Russell to walk with you throughout the walk.
- The rain should be in moderation. Running in the rain is great, but only a little. And even better – just admire the rain from under the canopy. If possible, try to make sure that the dog does not get too wet. Otherwise, she may catch a cold, and you will get tired of drying her hair every time.
- In case of rain, get a waterproof overall or raincoat for your dog and special shoes. So you protect the dog not only from moisture, but also from dirt, damage and reagents.
- We leave the wallows in the mud for the pigs. And even if your dog is a real pig at heart, it’s still better not to let him wallow in the mud. Firstly, it may contain substances dangerous to the dog. Secondly, after a mud bath, the pet will become cold. Thirdly, for a well-groomed appearance of a dog, you, at such a pace, will have to fight for a very long time.
- We play with great care with autumn leaves! Try to always inspect the area where the dog walks. Letting her burrow her nose into the autumn leaves is very dangerous. Do you know what might be hiding under the leaves: mites, debris, glass shards?
So we played a little with a few leaves, took a couple of beautiful shots – and went on about our business.
- We lie not on the cold ground, but at home on a warm couch. Do not let your pet doze off on cold pavement or wet ground: otherwise, cystitis and exacerbation of chronic diseases are practically guaranteed.
- Getting ready to walk in the dark. It gets dark early in autumn. To make your pet noticed from afar, get a luminous collar for him.
- We protect from drafts. Fresh air is great, but it is better that it does not walk around the apartment in the form of a strong draft. Especially if the dog’s coat is wet.
After the walk, be sure to wash the dog’s paws, remove dirt from the coat (with a brush, sponge or bathe the dog), and then dry it thoroughly.
- Returning home, be sure to examine the dog for the presence of parasites: fleas and ticks. Yes, yes, in autumn, ticks still do not sleep, and fleas are still active all year round. Be careful!
And finally: get a special bag for walking with the dog. Throw in a raincoat, a glowing collar, a towel, dry shampoo, a wool brush and, of course, a treat. Will definitely come in handy!
Have a nice walk!
